I just happen to have plenty of space to house a Weber Ranch Kettle charcoal
grill. If I could just convince my wife to have the neighborhood over on a
regular basis, I could justify the cost!
This is a kettle grill on steroids.
It's HUGE! I really really want one. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I'm going to
purchase a
Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker first. It fits more in line with my
needs at the moment. But don't let my minimalist needs deter you. Check out the
facts below and make your own decision. This is a recommended grill if you
entertain 10 or more hungry stomachs regularly.

"I have a Ranch It is a lot of fun to cook on. You can create so many
heat zones in the monster" ~BBQ Brethren Forums
"I love mine, especially when lots of people are coming over."
~ BBQ
Brethren Forums
"I'm not certain if there's even a single member
that owns a Ranch Kettle on this board.
However, I'd bet there are at least 1000 or more folks here who wish
they did..." ~ Barbecuebible Forums
"I use my kettle much more than I use my BGE." ~The Smoke Ring Forums
It stands 3.5 feet tall
- 3 feet 8 inches deep from the handle
- 37.5 inches in diameter - just over three feet
- 1104 square inches of cooking area
- 2 independent half circle stainless steel cooking grids.
They can be set at different heights independently for different cooking
needs in the same cook
-
Constructed of heavy grade steel with a porcelain - enamel
coating. Holds up to the heat and it's easy to clean once it's cooled.
- 7 inch diameter rear wheels for easy movement over uneven
ground. The front wheels are smaller, but you can simply lift and pull when
they can't handle the terrain.
- Ash catcher between the legs to protect your deck
- A clever tuck away lid holder. With a lid this big, it's
nice not having to man handle all the way to the ground.
- Hooks for hanging your grilling tools
- Round shape provides a more even distribution of heat than
a rectangular gasser.
Weber Ranch Pros
- Very efficient cooker for it's size
- Adds additional flavor to your food
- Extremely large grilling surface
- Surprisingly portable for it's size
- Withstands extremely high heat from wood coals
- You'll no longer need multiple grills to serve large
gatherings
Weber Ranch Cons
- Missing the flip up section of the smaller Weber grills
for managing the coals
- It's extremely expensive at $1,000
- No built in hood thermometer
That about sums up the Weber Ranch Kettle grill. It's a perfect fit for
feeding a hoard of ranch hands, that's for sure. I guess when you think about
it, if you're a charcoal or wood kind of guy, this is a lot less expensive than
some of those large gas grills that cost many times this price. However, they
have all the cute bells and whistles that most traditional barbecue folks
chuckle at.
