The Traeger Texas 075 is Amazing

by Ross
(Fresno, Ca)

Took the unit out of the box, put the legs on it and fired it right up. The 075 is amazing. Have done pork chops, baby backs, whole chicken as well as steaks. I could not be happier with the unit. As I write this I am making chicken jerky chunks and am headed to the market to buy 2 pork Butts for a family Pulled Pork Dinner.

I have started to experiment with the different pellets. So far I am a fan of the Apple and Cherry. Did mesquite on the Chicken and it was a bit strong. I'm using a blend of Hickory, Apple and Cherry on the chicken jerky.

My Traeger has far exceeded my expectations, and they are High!

Traeger Jr Customer Service Problem

by Resa
(Arvada, CO)

I bought my smoker from a dealer listed on the Traeger website. It was an anniversary present for my husband. He had drooled over them for a few years. He put it together that night and started it up. Within 15 minutes, the auger motor went out. I called the dealer, but they refused to help me and referred me to traeger for help. I cried. It is SO upsetting to buy a present, it not work, and get no decent customer service on top of it. I felt like I just blew $400. I cried, again. What a nice way to celebrate our 33rd anniversary. Traeger told me that they'd evidently got a bad batch of auger motors and that they'd send me another and hopefully send instructions on how to install the motor. I cried again. So, now I wait 2 weeks for a motor. I hope I can install it. They are giving no compensation for my trouble and the dealer won't answer her phone when I call. It has been a BIG PAIN IN THE ASS!!! Their grill may be good (if I can ever get mine to work), but their customer service is HORRIBLE!!! Evidently, all they want is your money. Sure would have been nice if they'd have offered some free pellets for the ones I wasted trying to get the smoker to work, or give me like $30 off my purchase for the trouble, and if the dealer had called to check on the situation. I hope the company is telling them to expect more problems with other sales due to the auger motor issues. Well, now I wait for my motor and hope it will eventually work out.

Traeger 070 Lil Tex

by Dean Drabin
(Bend, Oregon)

I've owned my Traeger for five years now and swear by it; best, most consistant BBQ I've ever had!

For the person who had problems with pellet overfeeding: I've had that happen too, and the issue is not with the motor, but with the heating element. If the element fails, the pellets don't burn, so they just continue to pile up as the auger feeds them into the fire box. All you have to do was order another element, which takes about fifteen minutes to install, and you're good to go. It's a shame that such a small item ruined your experience with the grill---you've really missed out!

Traeger Junior and Big Boy XL

by Ken Moore
(Houston, Texas)

Bought the Junior for camping on weekends and the taste was so awesome that I went out the next week and bought the big boy XL for the house. Everything I cook on either of these grills is top notch! i also bought a Mavrick wireless meat thermometer which lets me enjoy a glass of wine while the meat smokes to perfection. Not cheap but by far the best meat flavor ever (and I have tried every BBQ method out there. Recommend Maple pellets for chicken and pork roast and mix of hicory / pecan for beef and ribs.

A Former Traeger Dealer Says

by David
(Tulare ,CA)

We became a Treager dealer 3 years ago. Unfortunately, we came in on the tail end of the grills being mfd in the USA. The company was sold by the Traeger family to this numbskull investor named Keith Barish. His first move was to send mfg to China. This is where all of the crap is made and Traeger is no exception! We started having problems by our second year.

We sold about 100 grills our first year, 100 the second year and quit selling them by the 3rs year due to their unreliability. We were getting so many back we could not afford to sell them any more. We were going to our customers homes and fixing them.

We now sell Lousiana Grills. They are the best we have seen so far. It is unfortunate Barish decided to ruin a great product, but I guess he has screwed everything up he has touched. Do not waste your money on a Traeger Grill. There are plenty of great ones out there. Do your home work!!

Lil Tex Elite Model # BBQ07EB Drip Pan Broke

by Steve
(Tigard, OR)

After only 11 days the drip pan support bar broke off, the welds broke. Traeger had no fix for the problem, and put the burden of repairing this on me. That's was not what I expected when I purchased from a local company and paid a premium price for this product.

I don't believe I would purchase another Traeger product or recommend Traeger to any one of my friends.

Traeger BBQ070 from Costco

by Robert Byram
(Fernley, Nevada)

We purchased the Traeger grill after the salesman at Costco told us how EASY it was to cook chicken, tri-tip, etc. When we attempted to cook a 2 LB Tri-Tip. The instruction on how to cook the meat was not clear, thus we over cooked out meat. We did not find the Traeger to be easy to cook with. We are going to return the Traeger tomorrow for a full refund and purchase a Weber.(We were very unhappy with this product)

Traeger Lil Tex Pellet Grill - Fighting with Vendor

by Jeremy
(usa)

Not only does Traeger expect you to fix everything under warranty yourself, lately they have been fighting me on getting the parts to do it. My grill has been broke for 3 weeks now and Traeger refuses to send me the parts to fix it.

Traeger 070 Lil Texas

by Steve
(Washington MO )

I purchased my smoker a year ago. Within one year the auger would not stop feeding causing the hopper to overflow. I called Treager they said I needed a new moter. After waiting 2 weeks I recieved the new moter installed it with still no success. I also recieved a new switch as well. I will never purchase another Traeger product. I have wasted over $500. for maybe 10 to 12 uses. I recently purchased a water smoker (uses charcoal/wood) for $34.99 works great smokey flavor and consistant quality.

Traeger Texas Grill Temp Problems

by Mike
(Puyallup, WA)

I bought the Texas grill because a couple friends have them and they seemed to work great. I have had nothing but problems with mine. From reading the other reviews these problems seem to be consistent. Mine will not stay on smoke, the temp runs up above 500 degrees and stays there. Not very effective for trying to smoke a brisket. I was told to purchase a digital thermostat (which cost another $100) to fix the problem. I made the purchase and it did not fix the problem. I have been sent multiple replacement parts but still have the same problem.

If you just want a grill that will get super hot to cook things like burgers or hot dogs the Traeger will work. However, if you want to be able to smoke items such as a brisket or prime rib at a constant low temperature the Traeger does not work as advertised. You really have no control over the temperature and at the higher temperatures the Traeger does not smoke, it just gets hot. You can get a gas grill that just gets real hot for much less money than the Traeger.

I have discovered that Traeger, which used to be built in America, recently outsourced its manufacturing to China and there have been nothing but problems since then. Traeger will send you replacement parts but these come from the same source and have the same problems.

My friends purchased there grills before the outsourcing and there grills work excellent. If you are going to purchase a Traeger, get one that is several years old and was constructed before they started outsourcing the manufacturing.

Lil Tex elite BBQ07e

by Jeremy Bryant
(Sacramento)

Astounding a company like this can stay in business! My wife and I saw these at Costco, and after wanting one for years- we bought a Lil Tex elite. Then took it back, and did the same thing three times!! After getting several bags of pellets for free, we finally got a upgrade to the Texas grill, and a free cover! So far so good...!

This grill is working fantastic on day four, great results, but the first three we had all had the auger motor die within an hour of turn on! Go figure... Anyway, the ONLY reason we still have one is because it's Costco! If it dies or has a problem during the warranty period I will take it back for a full refund! So, the stories are right... Serious quality issues... But my new Texas one seems to work fine! Great cooking results!! Better for a 1200.00 dollar grill- though we got it for half that... ish... If you buy one, better make sure you can exchange it! I will not fix this myself... Period!! I didn't pay that much for a product I have to repair myself!

Traeger Texas Grill - Mad As Heck

by Mad as Heck
(Florida)

Bought the grill on Friday put it together Saturday (simple), did the start-up check and the auger fan wouldn't work. Moved some wires around and got the auger to work. Then the probe wouldn't get hot. I called the Trager hotline and got a young lady on the line who surprisingly was able to answer the phone because she didn't know anything about the product she was supposed to be trouble shooting. After listening to her read her cue cards she told me the module was bad and to call back on Monday. I got the grill going after finding a bad ground. Then the thermostst didn't work! I do not recommend this product.

Traeger BBQ124 Professional Model

by Bruce
(Salem, OR)

Traeger's BBQ124 Professional Model

Traeger's BBQ124 Professional Model

I am a barbecue purist. Real wood equals real barbecue. I also enjoy grilling. I discovered the Traeger in 1991, and fell in love with it.
The Traeger uses real hardwood pellets for fuel and flavor. What I like is their indirect cooking system. You REALLY have to try hard to burn or ruin food. No flare-ups and I don't have to hover over the barbecue while I am cooking on it.

My model has a digital thermostat and it is AWESOME! I get the grill started, rotate the dial to the temperature I want to cook at (just like an oven in the house) and the Traeger keeps the temp btween 5-10F of the setting I've chosen. The best thing is the flavor that the wood pellets provide! Nothing comes close.

I can barbecue (real barbecue), grill, roast, bake and smoke with my Traeger. You want convenience and REAL BBQ? Then get a Traeger.

==========================

If you'll ship yours to Atlanta for the winter, I'll verify what you just said and ship it back in the spring :)

Mike
