Traeger 075 Texas

by Stone Winston
(Billings, MT)

I bought the 075 ("Texas") at Costco, on sale for $800 when the rep was in town for a sale. The first time I fired it up, WHAP! the heating rod goes south. I called the factory and they sent out a new one. I installed that and fired up the grill, WHAP, it goes out as well. I called them, raised the roof and the sent me out a complete hopper. I fired it up again and started cooking ribs, WHAP, the rod goes out for a third time. I'm thinking, I just spend $800 on a grill and have to deal with this? Really, REALLY? The problem is, two or three years ago, they started having their parts made in China, BAD BAD MOVE in the quality department. I took it back to Costco and got a cash refund. I bought a Yoder YS640. http://www.yodersmokers.com/pellet.html I had it shipped with all the goodies. This thing was a bit more money, but you talk about bullet proof QUALITY! The Yoder is a life long grill, where the Treager, once the same way, is nothing but problems.

I got a chance to get to know enough about Treager repair experience to become a tech, if I ever decide to quit my engineering gig.

I agree with the problem being on that guys end....the probabilities of anything happening 3 times in a row is just too great. That China argument does not fly....even if the others grills say they make theirs in America they get their steal from China....a sad thing but true. My Big Tex 075 has not had one problem. It is the best cooking machine I have ever owned. It has brought the joy of cooking back. By the way, I do not see the Yoder's or other pellet grills sold in Costco and to your benefit, Costco stands behind everything. Oh, and FYI, Weber's are made in China also.

The Problem May Be At Your End.
by: Anonymous

It sounds like the problem may be with your electrical system in your home, not with the Traeger. Any electricians care to comment about this? I've never had any issues with my Traeger, so I am disturbed when I read a review such as yours where your default argument is that Traegers are now made in China (with just about everything else). My cell phone is made in China and my TV is made in China. Half the stuff in my house is probably made in China. I also own two Toyota's, bought when everyone was bad rapping Toyota. I haven't had a problem with either one of them. Unfortunately, you "may" have gotten a unit that happened to have issues, unless the real problem was an electrical surge at your end which caused the problem. What are the chances of the same thing happening three times? Not very likely. If so, every Traeger sold in Billings would have had the exact same issue and they didn't. Sorry you had problems. Seems like Traeger tried to fix the problem. What they should have done was send an electrician to your house.
