TEC Sterling G2000 FR Consumer Review
by Daniel
I was interested in the new technology in the new TEC grills (the 100% infrared cooking with the stainless steel burners and the temperature variations) so I splurged and spent the thousands (damn they have gone up in price!!) and got the new Sterling G2000 FR in May of this year (2011) Once again, I am impressed, I will never own another grill other than a TEC. The Pros: It does makes my meats more juicy and flavorful It gets extremely HOT! Hotter than my older model IMO It also can crank down the temp to slow cook foods as well...where the older models can't Very fuel efficient Everyone in my neighborhood is jealous :) The Cons: The cost. $5-6,000 (depending on where you go) for a 2 burner grill is steep The claim that this is a flare proof grill is false...that's my biggest beef. If you cook foods with a lot of fat content (say a ribeye steak) on high heat the grease will drop on the glass emitter panels and flare BAD...even when you crank the heat down after the initial searing the flames will still persist longer than they should. Overall: I love the new grill...the new stainless steel burners are awesome because you don't have to worry about them cracking or warping if you drop something on them or if they get wet. Very easy to clean. While I would certainly recommend this grill, those that are interested in getting a TEC need to understand that it does take some getting used to...you'll burn some things up and not cook things enough while you are learning how to cook on it. But once you master it you will love it and everyone will be clamoring for invites to your cook-outs
