My New Bubba Keg Grill (now the Big Steel Keg Grill) From Home DepotSocial Retargeting by Chango Since it was pre-assembled, and I had my truck with a trailer hitch, I decided the best of course of action was to mount it on my trailer hitch. Wish I had brought my camera! Right off the bat, there was a problem. The trailer hitch extender was missing 2 of the 3 required hitch pins. I had the one required to mount the adaptor because I had a hitch already. But, the second screw-in pin was missing. The young man helping me ran in and found a complete set (not sure how since they didn't have another unit). So, once we had what we needed it was a snap to install and mount my new Bubba Keg Grill (now the Big Steel Keg Grill) on the back of my truck. It was a very stable fit and I was very impressed. I suddenly had all kinds of thoughts floating through my head about the places I would take it. It seems like every time we rent a mountain cabin, all there is available is a gas grill. Not going to cut it for me when I'm hankering for some smoked baby backs. But there was one more problem I had been to the store the previous day and took some time to check out the "Multi-tool". This is the one thing you absolutely need to operate your new Bubba Keg Grill (now the Big Steel Keg Grill) with ease, and as I opened the hood to double check everything...it was missing! The guy I was working with looked all over and simply couldn't find one. So, I he took my name and number down and promised they would order one from me from In-Zone (the manufacturer). We will see how that goes because I got no documentation from them that the tool was acknowledged as missing. Seasoning my New Bubba Keg Grill (now the Big Steel Keg Grill)The first thing I needed to do was get my grill seasoned. As with any grill that has cast iron, you need to make sure to take care of it. Otherwise, it'll rust out on you over time. I lathered up the awesome cast iron grate (this is one of the best I've seen) with Crisco and got a good coating on the top vent (inside and out). Now was the part I could not wait to see. I still couldn't believe how small the charcoal grate was. They tell you not to cover the vent holes (or you'll lose airflow) which means you can't put much lump charcoal in it. So, I'm guessing I used about $.50 worth of lump to season the grill. I got it lit, put everything in place, and let it run at 500 F for a few hours. There was fuel left! And there was very little ash. Many, after using an entire bag of briquettes just to smoke some ribs on my Char-Griller, this was really impressive. I'll make up the difference in cost in a few months just in Charcoal savings, that's a fact. I grilled up a few burgers and some left over chicken breasts just to get the feel of things last night. I put some more lump in, got it to temp, did the grilling, shut the vents and there is a pile of fuel left over. I'm still amazed. Purchase a
