Kenmore Sears model 122-16643900

This grill started shooting flames out the knobs at us after only a little more than a year of usage. It's a dangerous piece of crap and a waste of money. Don't buy Kenmore and don't buy from Sears.

2010 Kenmore 4 burner gas grill.....1 year later
by: Tim

Disclaimer:
We BBQ frequently through the year, we have a nice quality, padded cover and I scrape and clean the grill regularly. My last grill lasted almost 7 years without a failing or needing replacement parts. It was not the best, but did its job. I purchased this one simple because of the different burner layout and design.
Review:
JUNK! GARBAGE!, TRASH! A real throw-away. If you’re inclined to buy this, budget $400 - $500 a year for a replacement gas grill. My charcoal Weber grill lasted 15 years and was still kicking when I converted to gas. My first gas grill lasted 7 years.
Problems:
1. Day one, uneven flame and cooking temp from one side to the other.
2. “Built-in timer”. Useless. Really? Come on Sears!
3. Bottle opener. Cute. Also useless. Used it once at a party.
4. 6 months in, drip deflectors need replacement.
5. 8 months in, first burner tube mount rots out.
6. 11 months in, second burner tube mount rots.
7. Not much good to say but the stainless looks nice on the patio.
Lessons learned:
1. Looks aren’t everything. So I’ve heard, but in this case true.
2. Don’t believe what the sales clerk says except what he will charge you for the grill. Even then, check it twice.
3. Never “buy” a warranty. I didn’t, and glad I chose not to. Anything of quality will INCLUDE a warranty relative to its value.
Solution:
Calculating the cost for new cheap parts to replace old cheap parts every 6 – 10 months, leads me to believe that spending a few dollars more on higher quality equipment is a better choice to begin with. I’m not a name brand kind of guy, but Weber seems to be coming to the top of the list from what I have been reading but I’ll take suggestions.
Sears:
PLEASE close my account! I am done with you, your products, and your insatiable drive to sell warranties!
Back in the day (sorry for the cliché) my ex father in-law owned and operated a radiator shop for nearly 30 years. He bought ONE set of Craftsman combo wrenches and frequently would boast of the high quality and service from Sears and Craftsman. When he wore out a ½” wrench, he took his time to bring it in and you would exchange it for a new one. As well he should have. The tools were built with high standards and carried a lifetime warranty.
Those days are gone, warranties, quality, and standards.
They have been replaced with your corporate greed and profit driven motives.
When we consumers wise up, we will realize that it is truly YOU we cannot afford.
