Great Outdoors 8000 Grill
by Saipan Sam
The Beast
I bought this unit in September of 2001 with the purchase of the house. What went and when: - Ignitor - Yep, even on these things, they go. Bracket and mount rotted out as did the soldering on wire. June, 2005. Chose not to replace - Venturis - Little surprised by this one but I kept the grill out doors 365 days a year in the Adirondacks so I guess it is to be expected. August, 2006. By this time Great Outdoors was bankrupt so there was no free replacement. Bought quality, fixed-form aftermarket unit and it is still cooking. I went to a small island in the Pacific in 2008 and soon after recieved a call from a my property manager saying the burner had packed it in. 'Never, I thought' as I had serviced the original by cleaning the burner holes with a reamer in the past. I was forced to have him to replace the nice brass unit with stainless aftermarket trash as guests were at the house. I should have had him save the old one as I am sure I could have got it right back into service. I hate that stainless burner after market garbage. You never get those nice blue flames no matter how hard you try. Now I am trying to find a decent cast replacement burner that will not break the bank. If anyone knows where I can pick one up cheap, email me at BRM5985 at gmail.com I love this thing. I am sure with the right care, it will outlast me.
