Char-Broil 463728503 catching fire

by karen
(Longmont, CO)

Several times our grill has caught fire and burned up into the knobs...had to replace knobs once...almost caught the house on fire the flames were so dramatic. Called the co. and they claimed we needed to check for spider webs...none. We cleaned out the burner plumbing and still it happened. I don't know why this isn't a recall item. Bought at Home Depot...out of warantee.

Char-Broiler Patio Caddie Gas Grill

Bought this thing about 2 years ago and after using it for about a month, it has been sitting in my patio.

Pros:

Grate is good quality and easy to clean.
Thermostat is a plus

Cons:

Handle to hold and move the grill is not sturdy enough with the propane tank and the small wheels adds to the problem.

Takes awhile to heat up and must have the lid on to keep it hot. This makes it a problem when putting things on to cook or when flipping.

Uneven cooking area. There are hot and cold spots.

No temperature control what so ever.

Char Broil Commercial Series 463268606

by b arnold
(evansville in)

We have had this grill for a couple of years. It is showing major rust and deterioration. It stays on a covered patio so not happy about the condition it is in. I contacted charbroil and they sent us new fire tubes and a new fire box. the problem is the fire box is on back order and has been for about a month. We are ready to go get a new one. Not this brand.

Char-broil 3 Burner Infrared (Red) by Paul

by Paul
(Near San Francisco)

Was not quite sure if I was going to like this BBQ or not. Well it is a terrific grill so far, the early reviews showed concerns about tub and the grates.

I grill 4 to 5 times a week, the grates have held up well and clean easily when heated and scraped with a brass wire brush. The tub while it might be a bit of a pain to clean has held up as well.

I would recommend cleaning tub after every 3rd use, it is easier if you remove tub and clean.

This grills most everything I have thrown at it to perfection, I use a thermometer to check for "doneness", it runs at about 400 to 500 degrees but since there is no flame no burning, just juicy chicken and steaks or chops.

Now for the drawback, if you like a good char on your burgers, it is tough to achieve on this grill, although hot, with no flame it does not char well, I have tried to leave burgers on a bit longer and it helps, I also added BBQ sauce just before done and it caramelizes well and gives it a bit of the char.

Make sure grill is up to temp about 500 Degrees before putting on steaks and you will get a fantastic sear.

It takes some time to get used to the fact it is high heat no flame grill, so tinker with heat and keep a thermometer handy, with chicken it does not really get that burn you get with a flame, just nice grill marks.

Good Luck

Char-Broil Heatwave Great For The Money

by Tommy
(Alabama)

This is my Heatwave

This is my Heatwave

I received my Heatwave as a fathers day gift this year. As an avid user of Char-Broils Big Easy oil less turkey fryer, I am familiar with infrared cooking. Since using the Heatwave I have found the sear/hold method to be a very big part in cooking on this grill.

When cooking steaks on charcoal I would find flair ups and hot spots all over the grill. With infrared there are no hot spots, it's even heat all over the cooking surface. The only flair up I do experience is when I cook steaks or any meat with extra fat. Since your food will not dry out on infrared like it will on an ordenary gas or charcoal grill, you don't need all the fat to retain the moister. I have learned to trim all my food before cooking.

All you need to do is salt, pepper and lighty spritz the meat with high temp oil. Heat up the grill for 15 min's and sear both sides then move to a pan to finish. It's that easy and you will be amazed on the juices that the meat will retain. I also found the fuel savings is another plus to this grill. You will use less since your food is cooked (well to me anyway) so much faster and better.

One more plus to this grill. If you like smoke added to your food, just drop in some wood chips or pellets (I use pellets) between the grates and let it sit in the emitter. You will get a great smoke flavor added to great food cooked on this grill.

Clean up you ask? It easy, set the control knob to "CLEAN" wait 15 min's and brush all the stuff from the grates. It will powder the left over food to make it easier to clean up.

Great grill for the money. And once you learn to use it, I think it will be your only grill!

Charboil Patio Caddie 4654870 (LP) Electric Grill

by Melanie
(Dahlonega, GA)

My baby

My baby

Now that I'm a widow, there are a number of changes I've had to make in my life. One thought I had was that I would have to do without grilling; until I found an electric grill.

I wasn't prepared to deal with the hassle of a gas or a charcoal grill. I tried it once and I became very frustrated because it seemed that each time I decided to grill, there was no gas, no charcoal, no lighter fluid, or the weather refused to cooperate.

I am a very spontaneous person, and this means deciding to grill at the last minute. Nothing is as disappointing as having your heart and taste buds set on something grilled, only to discover that you're out of one of the required elements. Since I discovered the electric grill, I don't have those problems anymore.

I really found the electric grill by accident while searching for another item on line. After this, I began measuring my small screened porch for the right spot to place a grill. Once I had the measurements, I began searching for an electric grill that fit in that spot, and Char-Grill was it!

The grill is blue enamel, round, and small, and it fits perfectly in a corner 22" x 17". When I want to grill, I pull it out by its handle; it has rollers opposite the handle which makes it easy for a woman to maneuver.

My porch has no wood. It is constructed of bricks, metal, and cement, so I have no problem grilling on the porch when necessary, like when it is raining as it is at the present time.

In closing, I would like to predict that electric grilling will become a "Woman Thing" like gas and charcoal grilling is a "Man Thing". I am from the south where the weather is almost always ready for grilling, unless it's raining. However, if my taste buds were craving something grilled, I would have no problem.

If you haven't gathered by now, I'll just tell you; I Love My Electric Grill!

Char Broil 463257010

by ButWheat
(Hillbilly Country, NW MI, USA, YAY!)

After spending over 3 hours assembling it I noticed the claim on the front page of the manual stating 'Estimated assembly time: 30 minutes'. HAHHAHAHAH.

Ok, I was being meticulous, buy that time discrepancy jives with conversations with several friends and relatives who'd 'built' a grill.

Credit where credit's due, with some cross-checking from page to page to look at prior and later pictorials, all went well, and it didn't even suffer from the all-too-often translation errors (it IS, after all, a Chinese product damnit.

More credit, after assembly I went online to register it, then to report a very small part as missing, found, then found defective. To my amazement, the company called back the very next day to confirm shipping address so I should receive a new part soon, free.

Now, however, beyond the 'niggles'. My overall impression of this unit's quality is, well, ummm, it's shoddy Chinese CRAP.

For this level of grill, there should have been a tool rack, a condiment rack, and a few other things formerly commonly standard. Perhaps this would not be so upsetting had I not found out after perusing their web site that these common and very needed options were not available as options whatsoever.

Someone in marketing is missing a great opportunity, eh?

My last grill of this overall calibre had tool racks on BOTH sides, and condiment trays on BOTH sides.

OK, OK, times are tough, materiel prices are skyrocketing, scrape the little extras off to keep the price right, but HEY MARKETING, notice how easy it is to offer the shaved used-to-be standard stuff like condiment and tool racks.

The only reason I have this grill is because my children sent it to me for Father's Day.

May you (Char-Broil) continue to live on such fortune . . .

In closing, at least I feel confident that I may be able to get parts as they burn out, a welcome thought.

Oh, I guess I should continue my kindness streak: It looks like I may be able to expand my grilling season into at least part of the colder season here, what with the 50K BTU output of the internal 4 burners, looking forward to trying that :-!

P.S. - Should you desire to investigate my ideas for adding condiment and BBQ Tool racks, feel free to contact me.

Char-Broil Commercial Series MDL 463247009

by BT
(Palm Harbor, FL)

Just got Grill last week and had a large cook out. I noticed very uneven cooking from front to back. I realized the carryover tubes connecting the 4 burners had 2" flames no matter whether the burners were low or high. I contacted Char-Broil customer service and sent in photos at their request. I was told that is the way it is designed and there was nothing wrong. They said I should reposition my grill because crosswinds are causing the flare ups. As ridiculous as its sounded, I turned my grill 360 degrees and the flames were there at every position. I am not satisfied and Lowe's will not take it back. Does anyone else feel this is a problem?

4-burner grill with outdoor stove

by Rachael
(Colorado)

My husband and I purchased this grill when we moved into our new home, and we absolutely love it. It has everything we need in a grill, and cooks food with even temperatures, even when it is extra cold outside. It took a little while to get used to the heat on the grill, so the first few go-rounds I burned our food. Once I became accustomed to grilling with four burners, it became much easier to regulate temperatures, and turn off burners as needed for what I was cooking.

The outdoor stove is extra handy when I am making sides to go with whatever I am grilling--it allows me to cook everything at one time instead of running in and out to check on stuff inside and outside. It is extra heavy and extra durable, and even sustained strong winds which knocked the grill over a few weeks ago. Once we uprighted the grill, and replaced the parts inside, it sparked right up. Be careful not to let the drip tray fill too far with grease because it can catch on fire if unattended.

Charbroil Commercial Series Dual fuel model 463268008

by William Kay
(Sandusky, OH)

Stand back when grilling Beware!

Stand back when grilling Beware!

Charbroil is a terrible company - my burner shot flames out the knob and caught my sleeve on fire - when I filed a warranty claim it was denied??? apparently this is a known issue with these grills and clearly identified on page 9 of the manual... I would have settled for a new $2 knob but now my next step is a class action lawsuit

Char-Broil 48,000 BTU Model 463420508

by Paul
(Virginia)

My wife and I received this grill as a wedding present and I love it. Being the man I always end up do the grilling. Lots of grilling area but it still has even grilling temperature all around. Ignition on the knobs makes starting less of a hassle, but it is hard to get to the tank valve to turn it on and off. Getting the tank out is a trick too. But I still like the grill.

Char-Broil Red Infrared 3 burner Grill

by Randy
(Ball Ground, GA, USA)

I bought a Char-Broil Red gas grill two years ago. While we kept it constantly covered, the infrared troughs rusted clear through. Also, the Char-Broil cover made for the grill lasted even less time. The cover faded quickly and completed came apart at all of the seams. These covers are terrible and expensive, and must be replaced up to twice per year.

While the infrared grilling method worked well, this grill construction was poor. While the grill looks nice on the showroom, I would suggest spending another $150 and buying a Weber, which we just did. Once the troughs rust through, the flames shoot through the bottom of the grill, rendering the grill useless.

Char-Broil 463248708 Complaint

by Morris
(Florida )

I have had this "commercial" infared grill for about 2 years. The grates are rusted out on the bottom. I went to Char-Broil's website to order the replacement grates. On the parts diagram they show them as one unit(grate and housing). The parts and shipping is $184.91 I got them today, only to find that I only received the bottom part of the grate(housing). I contacted Char-Broil via chat and talked with a service rep. both useless, explaining that on the parts "list" they are sold seperately. Short of it, for around another $100 I can buy a whole entire new grill. I have filed a complaint with the Georgia Better Business Bureau.
