I purchased my TEC/Charbroil grill on May 28, 2007, for over $800. This is by far the worst grill I have ever owned. In less than 4 years, the infrared grilling unit has been replaced twice. That makes three failed burners in less than 4 years. The screws that hold the burner together cannot withstand the heat, and the screw heads shear off, causing the unit to fall apart. The unit first whistles, doesn't heat up and eventually bursts when the top is opened and air flows in. The original failed in 16 months. The first time I replaced the unit, the customer service rep informed me of the defective screws, but then said the screw issue had been resolved with better quality screws. She was actually right, because the first replacement unit made it 18 months. The third unit failed in less than a year. Instead of replacing the unit a 4th time, I went and bought a Weber. If you buy one of these pieces of overpriced junk, KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!!! Despite my verification of ownership with registering the product, and each time in getting the two replacement burners, Charbroil insists I prove it again with a receipt, in order for a monetary refund, and all I asked was that they send me the monetary value of the 4th replacement burner. Would love to put that money toward some WEBER accessories.
