The Bubba Keg Grill Does Leak

In another article, I contradicted a review on About.com which suggested the grill leaks through the top vent when it gets wet. This was based on my leaving the grill on my trailer hitch over night. It rained, I saw water puddling in the vent area, it was dry inside, and thus my assumption.

This is only an issue because the Bubba Keg Grill does not come with a cover. Nor is one available. I didn't think much of it since my early experience proved it to be a non-issue. Well, it pays to be thorough because I got the suprise of my life yesterday since I had gone out on a limb on this topic.

OK, I'm not perfect.

Two Months Later

I went on a business trip this past week and there were numerous storms here in Atlanta. Recently, I moved the grill from inside my covered, screened in deck to just outside where the gas grill used to be. Didn't think anything of it.

When I got back, I opened the grill. The platesetter was all wet. Then I opened the bottom vent to scoop out the ashes and got a muddy mess. It had leaked somewhere!

My best guess is that the leak is happening around the sides of the top vent. The top of the Bubba Keg does appear to sink toward the vent and I'm assuming that with as much rain as we had, and with it now fully exposed, that it puddled enough to leak through.

My earlier experience was below the shade of a low hanging tree, and also with just a light rain.

Now I'm looking for a cover for my Bubba Keg Grill so I don't have to deal with a muddy mess anymore. Let me know if you have any ideas. Do large BGE's have covers? I wonder if they will fit.

Still love my Bubba Keg, but the Bubba Keg grill does leak.
