Bubba Keg Beer Can ChickenAt the horse farm - Memorial Day partyFirst things first. I needed to get my Bubba Keg Grill off the porch and onto the truck. Since I was doing this by myself I was curious about my ability to handle this feat alone. I'm 6'-4" so I wasn't too worried about man handling this thing. First test was rolling it down a couple of small steps. No problem. There are plenty of hand holds and the wheels are just big enough to ease it down gently. Once I got it out to the truck I put the trailer hitch adaptor on. It's pretty simple to do. The only criticism I have is that the adaptor itself does not fit tightly enough. While the keg fits tightly on it's own stem, the entire unit will shift back and forth as your turn. Not a big problem, but it get's you thinking more than you should. Highly Recommended
I guess nothing is perfect, my hitch doesn't fit tightly either, but then again, there's nothing balancing on it either. I just made double sure that everything was locked down. Don't worry, I'll get to the Bubba Keg Beer Can Chicken!
As you can see it's a pretty nice fit. And I'm telling you, it gets a lot of looks when you're driving down the road. I was waiting for a car full of fraternity boys to follow me to the party. It was a risk I was willing to take. Now on to the Bubba Keg Beer Can ChickenOnce I got to the farm, I unload the grill and wheeled to it's new cooking position (for the afternoon). Had to get a couple of shots just to proved that I actually transported this thing elsewhere.
Since I was ordered to cook 4
Bubba Keg I had already prepped the chickens before I came over to the farm, so I won't go through that process here. I did use the same rub as I did in my other beer butt article. But before I could begin cooking, my wife asked the silliest question I've ever heard: I responded with a smile. I only wish I could have snapped the cool mist as it escaped from this ice cold bottle of beer.
Anyway, Bubba Keg Beer Can Chicken required me to get the grill going at ~250 F. I'm getting pretty good at that now so I got those chickens on, not really sure if it would take the 3 hours at takes on a WSM. I over cooked my last beer can chicken, so I was planning to check at about 2.5 hours. Here's what I saw...
I forgot my meat thermometer, so I peeled back a wing and saw that the juices were running clear. I was afraid to cook them any longer but still need to zero that in on this grill. Anyway the Bubba Keg beer can chicken was done so I took them off the grill, and put some foil and a blanket over them until everyone arrived Later on, I had to get the Bubba Keg Grill set up for cooking some hot dogs so I had to take the plate setter out and get this baby up to high temp. Guess what? Didn't need to add any fuel since we had some left over. Highly Recommended
