I'm often asked which is the best grill overall. That's a
very hard question to answer objectively since everyone has certain brand
loyalties, or cooking process preferences. For instance, it's hard to debate the
fact that Weber grills have an edge in name
recognition due to their excellent track record over the past 50 years. Then
again, the debate often involves gas grills versus
charcoal grills.
The debate has been broken down to
best gas grill,
best charcoal grill and best
electric grill (yes, electric), but which is winning out overall?
First, while gas grills seem to be more popular, Internet
searches related to each type are nearly identical. From which grill to buy, to
"how to's" on cooking on them.
So, how do I define the criteria for "best?" I'm going to break it down by
best selling, and highest rated. People vote with their wallets, so it's a very
simple exercise. I will also highlight a few "grills to watch" for up and comers
or items that aren't as main stream (like smokers).
I'm going to purposely exclude griddles, panini grills, sandwich
presses and waffle irons because they don't fall into the theme of this
website.
Best Selling Grill
One thing to keep in mind about the best selling grill is that more often
than not, it's related to price. That doesn't mean the cheapest grill will win.
In fact, the winner is not "cheap" at nearly $400. But, price versus versatility
plays an important role. More people are looking for something that can be used
beyond the patio and that means portability. The extra cost for a nearly
full-sized grill that is also easily portable screams value
to most consumers.
