BBQ Recipes Worth Feuding Over

Use this search feature to quickly find the information you're looking for.

BBQ recipes may be held closer to the vest than any other recipe. It goes without question that Barbecue is fast working its way to the top as one of the most popular methods of cooking nowadays; not only during the summer and during picnics, but whenever the urge strikes you to eat something truly succulent.

In every part of the world, each cook, professional or amateur, has his own Barbecue recipe that he guards jealously his entire life. These secrets may include everything from the simple secret of making your own Barbecue sauce, choosing the best cuts, knowing the right grill temperature, or a secret rub.

BBQ recipes differ from region to region. There is that distinct characteristic and taste that can always be associated with a certain region. For instance, North Carolina, which has a well known and unique style, is known for its delicious barbeque roast pork. In this region, it's the cooking process that takes center stage and is more important than the barbeque sauce. The tedious task of slowly roasting and smoking the pig for hours in big oil drums is worth all the effort and the wait. North Carolina pork barbeque is usually served on buns and paired with coleslaw and vinegar-based sauce.

The BBQ recipes in Texas are another story. As a place dominated by cattle ranchers, it's normal to associate beef barbeque, particularly beef brisket, as its dominant place in the world of Barbecue. Imagine pouring Worcestershire sauce over succulent, very thinly sliced beef barbeque. It would make anyone's mouth water.

Kansas City, on the other hand, prides itself on coming in between the other regional Barbecue specialties. Kansas is associated with slow-cooked ribs that taste similar to the North Carolina pork Barbecue. Kansas City gourmets prefer their Barbecue sauce sticky, and much thicker, so it clings better to the meat, instead of seeing the sauce fall into the fire as you rotate the Barbecue on the grills.

Nowadays, looking for BBQ recipes is not a big challenge because the recipes are being shared all around the world using enticing photographs in cooking classes, recipe books, pamphlets and flyers, word of mouth, video tutorials and the Internet. Barbeque web sites have sprung up like mushrooms overnight, where you can get almost all the information you would ever need to learn how to barbeque. Some sites offer subscriptions online for anyone interested to get free Barbecue recipes daily.

These sites, and manuals, provide step by step instruction on how to come up with the best Barbecue recipes; whether you want to do vegetable Barbecue recipes, beef, pork, lamb, poultry, seafood or whatever you want to barbeque.

But no matter where you are from, nothing beats eating the Barbecue specialty from your home region. It's one of those things like religion and politics...just don't bring it up if you just want to enjoy your meal. However, you can learn to cook and love BBQ recipes from other regions, and getting to know the basics of barbequing can help you. Here are a few general tips to help you produce the best tasting Barbeque recipes you could ever cook:

  • When you Barbecue meat, always see to it that the meat is not frozen and is totally thawed.
  • To avoid flare ups while the barbeque is on the grill, trim extra fat from the meats.
Just brush sauce on the barbeque as you grill them.
  • Refrain from using sugar-based sauces because they may burn your barbeque.
  • Be familiar with the grill you are using and check for the appropriate cooking times. It is important to know how long to keep the barbeque on to get just the right cooking you desire

Great Sources For Barbeque Recipes

There are a lot of places on the Internet to learn more about BBQ recipes.  But if you're a true "cook it low and slow" type of Q'er, then here is where I recommend spending a lot of time.

  • Barbecue Smoker Recipes - This site proves that barbecue wasn't invented in America. Folks have been cooking this way for thousands of years. So don't expect our friends in the U.K. to pass on this special treat. Paul Yates is as passionate about smoker cooking as anyone and you'll find some real gems on this site.
  • Cooks Cozy Kitchen where Great Cooks Recipes begin, make-your-tummy-happy with fantastic Cooking Recipes for Excellent Choices in Home cooking for Great BBQ Recipes and Grill Recipes
  • The Meat Source is a great place to start if you find yourself with a new grill or smoker, but you don't know the first thing about selecting the right meat.
  • Original BBQ Recipes Another good source for grilling recipes. Personally, I'm looking for BBQ recipes all the time so hopefully, this will make it easy on you.
  • If you're looking for a seafood recipe my friend Liz from find-a-seafood-recipe.com is my "go to" source and I highly recommend it. My wife is a huge seafood fan and I've delighted her with a number of great ideas I've found there. She also has a nice section on fish and seafood grill and barbecue recipes that I'm sure you'll find helpful when planning your next barbecue seafood meal.
  • One of the places I go to find great chicken recipes is chicken-recipes-made-easy.com. You'll find some grilled chicken recipes as well as a broader selection of ideas I don't cover on this site.

"Barbecue Recipes" is just the newbie way of writing! And "Barbeque Recipes" may be more accurate, but BBQ is so much simpler!
