When we think of pork chops, we usually don't think of BBQ pork chops. Who said that pork had to be unhealthy? We tend to think of the fried variety that contains a ton of artery-clogging fat. But it doesn't have to be that way! By selecting a lean cut of pork and then grilling it instead of frying it-you can enjoy a meal that's as nutritious as it is tasty.

Why should you grill pork chops instead of baking or frying them? The key is in the flavor. Using a gas or charcoal grill will allow the chops to be infused by the marinade that you set them in. This is especially true if you close the grill's lid and allow the smoke to permeate the meat evenly. If you see smoke emitting from a conventional oven, then you have problems. But it's a good thing if you're grilling your pork chops!

The process of grilling nutritious grilled BBQ pork chops actually begins with choosing the pork chops themselves. It's highly advisable that you choose "natural" pork, rather than "enhanced" pork. Yes, the former will have a higher fat content. However, the "natural" chops could also contain extra vitamins and minerals, which can cause them to be tastier.

Speaking of vitamins and minerals, how much is contained in pork? You might be surprised! Actually, you can get about half of the Thiamin that you need on a daily basis. Meanwhile, pork also provides about a third of the Vitamin B6 and Niacin that you need daily. This type of meat also contains about one-fifth of the daily Phosphorus and Riboflavin that you require. Finally, pork also contains about a fair amount of Potassium, Zinc, Vitamin B12, Magnesium, and Iron. So it turns out that there's more to pork than just fat!

When shopping for BBQ pork chops, look for loin cuts that are less fatty than others. The ideal cuts are those that contain less marbling. That's the network of fat that the meat contains. Choosing this type of pork will allow the meat to cook faster.

Here's a recipe for making juicy, savory grilled BBQ pork chops that all of your household and guests will love. First, you'll need to gather the following ingredients:

  • 4 pork chops (at least one inch in thickness)
  • 2 teaspoons of coarse ground pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of molasses
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic

Next, you'll need to combine the ground pepper, molasses, salt, and garlic. Afterwards, rub this mixture evenly on both sides of the pork chops. Then allow the pork chops to marinade for at least one hour. If they can marinate overnight, that's even better! This will allow the meat to be infused by the marinade. Then simply grill the pork chops on each side until they are done. Afterwards, it's time to pig out!

If you're hesitant to grill pork chops, then consider grilling some lean chops. Not only will the meat be full of vitamins and minerals, but you'll also enjoy the unique flavor that only grilling can provide. Bon appetite!
