A Review of Aussie Gas Grills

Originally, a metal fabrication job shop in 1959, MECO (Metal Engineering Corporation) began production of Aussie grills, both charcoal and electric, in 1999. Known as setting the standard in the marketplace with water smoker grills, as well as the electric and charcoal, MECO is located in Greeneville, Tennessee.

When you are searching for that perfect grill, have a few things in mind as you go shopping:

  • Where will the grill be used?
  • What type of fuel do I feel inclined to use?
  • How big or small should it be?
  • Do I want it to fit in with existing décor or try a new style?
  • How much money do I have to spend?
  • Do I just need a grill, or a grill with buzzes and whistles?
  • Watch for a good quality product, one that will last forever.
  • BTU's aren't exactly everything, look at the overall picture.

The Bushman, Bondi, and Monaro series Aussie grills each come with porcelain coated hood and bowl, aluminum steel burners, Porcelain Flavor Activator, steel cart, push button ignition, and a tray for storing accessories. The Adventure series is a pre-assembled portable gas grill that operates off compact propane tanks for nine hours of cooking time. Adjustable legs allow you to put this model anywhere you travel, operating with 5500 BTUs.

The Walk-A-bout Series from MECO is a small grill offering the consumer 332 square inches of cooking area and rolling wheels for portability. There are adjustable hood and bowl vents and an adjustable grid for temperature control.

Are you looking for a tabletop model? MECO has that, too! There is 200 square inches to the cooking surface, thermostatic controls, runs with 1500 watts and has three positions that include one that is perfect for rotisseries. Feel like you're smokin'? Aussie covers that, as well, with a 351 square inch surface, heat resistant wood sides and handles, flavor channels directing smoke for the best flavor and steel legs.

Aussie Grills - BushmanTo care for your grill, you may want to do a few things. You can season your cast iron by washing it with soapy water. To ready your Aussie grill for the season, you simply need to remove any dirt and dust, clean it again with the soapy water, and it will be ready to go. No need to jump through hoops to get your grill ready for another summer of fun! Lava rocks and briquettes are not needed, either. The Flavor Activator does the same thing, but better. Wire brush you iron grill parts occasionally so that rust will not occur. Never use oven cleaner on a grill, it is too corrosive.

The Aussie grill line from MECO come in a variety of sizes for portability, individual use, family use, indoor and outdoor kitchen use. You can find this fine line of products at Loews, Academy Sports & Outdoors and Sportskids Superstore, as well as several other outlets worldwide.
