Apple Bourbon BBQ SauceI'm usually kind of lazy and opt to use Montgomery Inn's BBQ sauce which is sold through Kroger's. Grew up on the stuff and love it. But, I decided it would be cool to make some from scratch this time. And I have to tell ya, it came out awesome! The only problem I faced was the fact that I had no Bourbon, and they don't sell alcohol. So I got on Google and found out that a decent substitute for it is Vanilla extract, which I had. So after a quick trip to the grocery store to get maple syrup and molasses, I got down and dirty making my apple bourbon BBQ sauce, and here's how it went. The IngredientsTo start off, you'll need a small skillet. Put the butter in over medium heat, then add the chopped onions. Sautee these for about 4 minutes. Then add the grated apple, bourbon (vanilla extract), salt, cumin, cayenne and cinnamon and sautee for a few more minutes. Remove it from the heat and grab a large sauce pan. Add the rest of the ingredients to the sauce pan, mix well and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Continue for five minutes while stirring regularly. Then add the onion and apple mixture and simmer for a few more minutes. Apple Bourbon BBQ Sauce Tastes GreatOnce your done, let it cool and then you can store it in an airtight container for a few weeks. But don't forget to to taste it! It's awesome! Sweet and hot perfectly blended. And this isn't like most BBQ sauce, it's nice and chunky which just makes it seem heartier to me. So tonight, I'm planning to pour it over apple and onion burgers. I'm starving so I can't wait for that. But, more importantly, I'm planning to try Chris Lilly's country style ribs with apple bourbon barbecue sauce. That is going to be a treat for sure.
